An urban ensemble full of life,
featuring seven buildings, has arisen on Potsdamer Platz, in central
Berlin, in the form of the new Sony Center. The around 26,000 m²
large site is located between the two traditional centres of the Kurfürstendamm
and Friedrichstrasse, in an exceptionally interesting urban environment,
and has provided space for a combination of work, residence and entertainment
since January, 2000. The complex's central focus is a 4,000 m²
covered forum. Lined with restaurants, cafés, shops and entertainment
facilities, this outstandingly lit public area provides space for cultural
events and encounters. Office and residential zones with a total area
of more than 100,000 m² are distributed around the striking triangular
area between Potsdamer Strasse and Bellevuestrasse. All seven of the
Sony Center's buildings feature impressive futuristic architecture in
a synthesis of steel and glass elements.
